Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in.
These events take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and people of every age and ability are encouraged to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience. Everyone is welcome. This is a great opportunity to run safely (and legally) in KZN's great sugar cane environment.
There are currently 54 Parkruns in South Africa. The inaugural Ballito Parkrun took place at Sugar Rush Park, Esenembi Road, Ballito on Saturday, 13 June 2015, with Bruce Fordyce, the national patron, present to launch the event.
The Parkrun takes place every Saturday morning at 8:00am and the Ballito community is invited to come along, participate, have fun and sharpen their fitness. Runners need to register online before their first run and bring a printed copy of their bar code. Entry is free.
Parkrun is staffed entirely by volunteers, so for the less energetic or injured, becoming a volunteer is a great way to get involved. The Sugar Rush Café will be open for you to grab a coffee before or after your run, or to simply sit and support those that are running.
